Located in southern Beijing, it was eventually first constructed in 1420, in the 18th year of this reign of Ming Emperor Yongle, who was also responsible for the construction of the Forbidden City.

This Temple of Heaven is round in the north and square in the south, implying the standard Chinese belief that there is a "round heaven together with square earth". Two layers of bordering walls
divide the temple in the Inner Altar and your Outer Altar. The a few altars, connected by some sort of 360-metre-long raised walk called the Vermilion Steps Link, are arranged in some sort of line
forming a north-south axis 1, 200 meters long.
